Since SafeCity began reporting that we are tracking JPD’s site for their Crime Summary, the process has improved … somewhat. Initially, the public was told that there would be weekly information posted about the prior week’s crimes. This was being done regularly for roughly 2 – 3 months, until the unexpected death of the person uploading the stats. After that, the stats seemed to drop from sight altogether. SafeCity began tracking JPD’s site on June 13th. We began publishing our tracking information on September 14th. JPD began updating their information on September 25th. However, the information being posted happened two weeks ago, not one week ago. Also, there is still no archived information so that citizens can compare week to week, month to month, etc. So, although we are happy to see improvement, we are not happy that the information is still not timely and still not archived so that citizens can get a better picture of what is happening. SafeCity will continue to track the JPD site in the interest of pushing JPD toward better and more consistent accountability to the public.
